Warranty Terms

All NiCad and Lithium batteries have a 1-year warranty provided that the fault is with the battery (and not a fitting fault or an external factor). Ni-MH batteries have a limited warranty and should not be used in temperatures above 55 degrees. The quality of Ni-MH fittings (as well as older NiCad fittings) should be taken into consideration prior to repairing. Warranty batteries will be retested prior to refund to check for faults. Usually if the battery is not holding for 90 minutes (within a year), it will be the fitting and not the battery.

What is an emergency lighting battery?

An emergency lighting battery is a backup power source used to power emergency lighting systems during power outages or other emergencies. These batteries are designed to provide reliable power for a specified amount of time, typically 90 minutes or more.

What types of batteries are used in emergency lighting systems?

The most common types of batteries used in emergency lighting systems are sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries and nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries. Both types are rechargeable and can provide reliable backup power for emergency lighting.

How long do emergency lighting batteries last?

The lifespan of an emergency lighting battery can vary depending on factors such as battery type, usage, and maintenance. SLA batteries typically last between 3-5 years, while Ni-Cd batteries can last up to 20 years with proper maintenance.

How often should emergency lighting batteries be tested?

Emergency lighting batteries should be tested monthly to ensure they are functioning properly. A full discharge test should be conducted annually to ensure the batteries can provide backup power for the specified duration.

What is the proper way to dispose of old emergency lighting batteries?

Old emergency lighting batteries should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Many jurisdictions have recycling programs for lead-acid batteries and other types of rechargeable batteries. Ni-Cd batteries may contain cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, and should be recycled to prevent environmental damage.

Can I replace the battery in my emergency lighting system myself?

It is recommended that only qualified professionals replace the battery in an emergency lighting system. Improper installation or use of a battery can result in damage to the system or injury to the installer. Always follow manufacturer instructions and consult with a professional if you have any questions.
